EuroGOOS, the European Global Ocean Observing System (https://eurogoos.eu/), and its Technology Panel Working Group recently concluded the 2022 edition of the European Ocean Observing System (EOOS) Technology Forum (about the Technology Forum). This year, the forum, a biennial recurrence organized within the EOOS (https://www.eoos-ocean.eu) framework, was designed as a 3-day foresight workshop on technologies in the context of the UN Ocean Decade, with the aim of bringing together science and industry to explore the technical challenges and requirements inherent to achieving the ultimate goal of a clean and healthy ocean.
The completely virtual event, held online from 22 to 24 March, was supported by MINKE together with the EU H2020 EuroSea project (https://eurosea.eu/ ). Two MINKE partners, OGS and IFREMER, were part of the workshop’s international organizing team, which was successful in attracting leading experts for illuminating keynote talks and panel discussions on expected Ocean Decade needs and the technology-related demands these represent.
The occasion was enriched further by a number of show-and-tell presentations by various marine technology providers. A total of 124 participants took part in the workshop. The presentations of the workshop (keynote addresses, and showcase and show-and-tell presentations) can be accessed at: https://www.eoos-ocean.eu/news/highlights-of-eoos-technology-forum-workshop-2022/.
